Abhignya's Story
In early October, 3 years old Abhignya developed what began as a routine fever. Within 48 hours, the infection rapidly escalated into severe acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) secondary to Streptococcus pneumoniae infection.
The invasive infection damaged her heart and lungs, causing severe bacterial myocarditis and left ventricular dysfunction. She was immediately transferred to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Manipal Hospital Old Airport Road, Bangalore.
To keep her alive, the medical team initiated central Veno-Arterial (VA) ECMO life support on 1 Oct 2026. The machine performs the vital work of her heart and lungs while they fight to recover. Doctors estimate she requires 4 more weeks of continuous ECMO support, followed by further hospitalisation.
Her parents, Shridhar & Akhila Kulkarni, have exhausted all their personal savings across the initial critical weeks. Every contribution and every share matters.
